The Lemon Water Challenge

I just recently completed  what I call the 30-day Lemon water challenge.

There is a saying about the fact that if you do something consistently for 21 days that it becomes a part and parcel of you.I chose the number 30 probably just for completeness purpose.

Hence, I would like to share the result of my little experiment with you all.

So what I did was that when I woke up in the morning, I would check my weight before anything else and record it. Then I got an average-sized lemon, cut it in half and squeezed the juice into a glass cup with about 10 ounces of water( approximately 295 ml) and drank it !

I repeated  this daily for 30 days while maintaining my normal lifestyle. That is, I did not change anything else. In mathematics they would say all other factors remained constant.
I still ate my normal carbs, added as much sugar as I wanted to my tea ( I love tea! Nigerian by birth,  British in tea habit) as well as cereal. Occasionally took fizzy drinks (Sorry I have a sweet tooth I am working on).

The Results

I realized I had lost 2.2 Kilograms ( 4.85 pounds) by the end of the 30 days. Now that does not sound like a lot, but it is something with literally no effort!

The beauty of this experiment is that I literally did nothing else but drank a glass of lemon water first thing in the morning before my normal breakfast. It is like a magic portion.
No conscious exercise, no calorie count, just my normal lifestyle and I lost some weight. It was not dramatic but it was something.
They say the journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step.

Apart from the weight loss I noticed some other things.

1) Reduced craving for sugar - Somehow,  towards the end of this experiment I noticed reduced craving for sugary things. I just did not want anything too sugary. Now that is a big deal for me because I have a "sweet tooth". I am not sure if it was the effect of the citric acid in the lemon water. Maybe someone should do a research on this to see if there is a connection.

2) Regular bowel habit - "Number 2" became regular . So if you have issues with your bowel habit you might want to give this a strong consideration.

3) Glowing skin- Now I cannot blame this on my skin pomade because at this time I had made no changes to my skin products but somehow my skin became revitalized. Hence, for a healthy glowing skin try out the Lemon Water Challenge.

If you would like to take on The Lemon Water Challenge, here is a list of things you would need:

- A journal (to record your weight daily and put a tick when you drink the "magic portion")
-A pen (to write)
-A bathroom scale (to daily weigh yourself)
-A glass cup (one that can contain about 10 oz of water)
-Lemons (15 average-sized to cover 30 days)

The results of my little experiment has inspired me to go on what I call "The Modified Lemon Water Challenge". This would entail very strict adherence to calorie counts, conscious exercise and no sugar! Till then, give this a try and kindly share your results with me.

Live healthy and stay strong.
