Blacks don't read- True or false?

" If we encounter a man of rare intellect, we should ask him what books he reads"
                                                                                   - Ralph Waldo emerson

I came across a saying that if you want to hide something from a black man , simply put it in a book.
Now I was very furious about that statement. I wanted to know who originally said it and probably give the person a piece of my mind!

However, guys, seriously there is some hard core truth in that saying. The truth they say is bitter.
So the question is "do blacks really read as a lifestyle?"

Many people would only read because there is an examination or because someone made them do it.

There is a great need to cultivate the habit of just reading for knowledge purpose as well as for leisure. Not because it has to be done for the purpose of school or an examination.

Reading should be fun and exciting!

Read to seek knowledge, to open your mind, broaden your views and perspectives to life.

It keeps your brain cells active and connecting.

Buy books and read them. Do not just use them to decorate your study to make you look or feel good.

Visit your local library. They have loads of books and resources you cannot imagine.

If you want to predict where a man will be in a couple of years, you can tell by the books he reads and the company he keeps. So what happens if he does not read at all?

We are in an age where there are so many distractions competing for our attention. There is technology through phones, television and various gadgets which are very brilliant innovations in themselves .Also there is social media which consumes a reasonable portion of people's time.

If the total time you spend on your phone and social media is more than the time you spend reading a book a day, then there is a problem that needs to be addressed.
There is a need to deliberately carve out time to read books.

Reading improves your ability to focus, to concentrate and retain information better.
Books are very powerful. They change and transform lives.
Read wide , read a lot. You can never have too much of it.

Most powerful and successful people in the world read.
Reading is to the brain what exercise is to the body.
Do you know there is an international book lover's day? This is celebrated August 9th every year which further reiterates the importance of reading as a hobby.

Peradventure if you have children the best gift you can give to them is the gift of reading.
This is because readers are leaders. You are sowing seeds of greatness in them.

Anyway, my admonition is that you should pick up a book today, find a quiet corner, settle down, make yourself comfortable and just Read!
